we would be eagerly awaiting the arrival of bluebonnet season. Once we started seeing them around the city, we'd pick a Sunday morning - it seems to usually fall on the first Sunday of April - and drive down towards Granbury on 377. We'd find a particularly striking patch of the state flower, gingerly ease the car off the road, and unload everyone for a photo session. Then we'd head to
Cafe 1187 for a delicious, home-cooked lunch on its idyllic grounds.
We've done this three years running, ever since Gideon was about four months old. I was a little sad to leave Texas just before it was time to do it this year, just barely missing our chance to do it one last time. I'm hoping someone reading this in Fort Worth will take up this tradition for us and make it their own. And think of us when they do it.

We LOVE Cafe 1187! That's where we went after Darren proposed, where we had our rehearsal dinner, and where we return to celebrate both each year. His ancestors received an original land grant from the state of Texas for the land it sits on. So next time we're both in FW, we'll have to go together! -Julia
ReplyDeleteBluebonnet season is here! Everything is so blue and beautiful... we're planning our first photoshoot for this weekend!
ReplyDeleteHey friend! Just this weekend I witnessed a woman taking a photo of her dog in a field of bluebonnets on the side of the highway. It was a familiar and fun sight.
