Nurture Shock by Po Bronson and Ashley Merryman
A sampling of "expert" advice texts on raising boys, the most recommendable being:
Wild Things: The Art of Nurturing Boys by Stephen James and David Thomas
Baby, We Were Meant for Each Other: In Praise of Adoption by Scott Simon
The Art of Comforting by Val Walker
Twelve Steps to a Compassionate Life by Karen Armstrong

Nurture, Comfort and Compassion. I'm curious what's going on in your life to drive this trend. What is Nurture Shock about? Guess I should click on the link!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your reading list... I'll be doing the same next week when I get back into the swing of things blogging. Tell me what you think of the adoption book. I could be needing one of these of my own sometime soon.
How do you like Nurture Shock? I'm thinking about re-reading it. And the Scott Simon book? I passed it over recently, but I think it's gotten really good reviews.
ReplyDeleteI have The Dubliners, Angela's Ashes and The Picture of Dorian Gray by my bed right now.
ReplyDeleteTammy, feeling Irish, ay?
ReplyDeleteMarg, the Scott Simon book was definitely worth the time. Well-written. I do feel like there were times his tone had a bit of an edge, as he addressed some of the insensitive, ignorant questions and comments they've come up against.
Val, the start of a new year and thoughts on how to make the most of it...
