The time has come...

 to move on.

While so many things in our life seem to be out of control right now - our house still sits on the market, waiting for that "one buyer" everyone promises is out there and our reproductive future seems cloudy and uncertain - there is one thing we do have a little control over:  our move date to southern Maryland.  And we've decided on sooner rather than later.

A little over a month ago, Jeremy finally received a definitive answer to the question everyone had been asking:  How long can you wait for your house to sell before being forced to move?  The answer:  May 3.

But, after the miscarriage and a string of showings with discouraging feedback comments (about things we can do nothing about), we decided it might be refreshing, challenging, distracting to go ahead with the move, regardless of the status of our home sale and not spend any more time just waiting for someone else to decide for us.

So, towards that end, we've started the process, with pack and load dates set just today for March 25-26.  Jeremy will be expected at work on the Patuxent River Naval Air Station starting April 5.

Our family - cat and dog included - will make the trip out there in Jeremy's truck, now equipped with a topper that will allow our luggage - and animals - to travel protected and safe from the elements.

We will be quartered in temporary housing in Lexington Park, Maryland, for up to 60 days while we search for permanent lodging, enjoy having someone else doing the house-cleaning (after five months of having to keep ours in tip-top showing condition), and let the newness of it all envelope us and invigorate us.

Despite the craziness that will surely ensue from having a cat and a dog and a small child in the close quarters of a two-bedroom TownPlace Suite, it still will feel like a vacation - an escape from the other uncertainties in our lives, or at least a pleasant distraction from them, something to keep us busy and give us perspective.

We'll keep you posted on the details...

  1. Well, I've been where you've been, Friend. Temporary housing, rearranged dates, crazy unrealized expectations, major family plan upheaval.

So, you go. Just pack it up and move. I fully believe that the change will do you and your heart good... something else to think about and do for awhile. And the house, well. We'll figure out the old house in time :)

  2. My parents moved to Virginia without selling their house in Louisiana. It worked very well for them. Mom hired lawn and cleaning people and a trusted realtor to care for the house. Despite initial trepidation, all worked out for the best. The house sold, stress decreased, and they were able to start the next chapter of their lives. I'm very excited for y'all to do the same. Plus, what a great roadtrip. I hope you will blog about your upcoming adventures.
