Exciting Morning Walk Today...

Our typical path down the heavily wooded road behind our hotel rendered a couple of surprises this morning.

Not even a half-mile off the busiest road in the area, a young deer bounded across the paved road in front of us, passing out of and back into the woods swiftly and quietly, but still startling and exciting us.  Then Sally sniffed out a vicious, um, turtle along the edge of a gravel side lane we decided to explore.

I'm sure we all picked up a tick or two, too.  I've picked four off of us in the past two weeks.  Looks like we're trading fireants for ticks.  Yay.

  1. I hate fire ants too but at least as far as I know they don't carry Lyme Disease. It gets its name from the town of Lyme, Connecticut where the disease was first discovered in the U.S. in 1975 and is now the most common tick-borne disease in the northern hemisphere. Hope you'll use lots of repellant and get any ticks picked up removed from your bodies promptly.

  2. I actually saw a deer on a walk this week too! I was walking along, looking at the green trees and grass and flowers, thinking how beautiful it all was and seconds later, there was a deer, frozen, staring me down next to a wooded area. It was a lovely moment.
