Whatever Wednesday: Green's Sausage

If you live in, near or ever pass near by the Centroplex (Temple/Belton/ Killeen, Texas), it would be well worth your time to make the drive out to Zabcikville, Texas, east of Temple on highway 53 (on the way to Aggieland) to stop and have lunch at Green's Sausage House - their signature sausage burger is recommended.  Bring a cooler, too, because you will definitely want to take some of their sausage home with you.

The Beerwinkle family is pretty devoted to Green's.  Aunts, uncles, cousins make sure to visit it and take sausage home any time they are in the area - and sometimes even make special trips for it.  Unfortunately, the drive from Maryland to anywhere in Texas is not feasible and after three years of whining about missing my Green's, Mama and Daddy treated us to a shipment (yes, Green's ships) of smoked and unsmoked sausage rings, and a package of tasty bacon.  The bacon is gone and we're already down two packages of sausage since receiving it two weeks ago.  Boy, is it good!  We're trying to pace ourselves.  Even the littlest member chowed down on the first round, despite having a pretty good cold at the time.

Thanks for the sausage, Memaw and Papa B.  Gideon was a little disappointed this morning when he discovered the sausage Jeremy was cooking for breakfast was just plain ol' Jimmy Dean and not "Memaw's sausage"...

  1. I guess that's because, like Kenneth says, it's closer to the home-made sausage we grew up than any we have ever tasted.

  2. I'd love to try some - can you bring any up with you this summer?
